With Love From Italy

Rather than blogging, as of late, i have been taking full advantage of the 70° + temperatures afforded us in LA.

Along with soaring daytime temps comes subtle changes in ones cycling wardrobe. Craft Pro baselayers are eschewed for DeFeet Un-D-Lite's. Wooly Booly socks are, once again, shoved to the back of the sock drawer for another year of hibernation. Full leg warmers are neatly folded and tucked behind the lighter, more comfortable knee warmers that reign king in spring and early summer. And with the risk of violating the "no white after labor day" rule, new cycling shoes are brought out in all of their pristine, opalescent glory - as if to say "F*ck off, winter! I'm ready to party!".

Being an extremely (cycling) fashion conscious individual, i realize the gravity of pulling on a fresh pair of these badboys in February.

Wikipedia even makes it clear how bold a move it is to sport disco-biscuits like these:

"Popular fashion etiquette dictates that white should not be worn after Labor Day. Originally it was white shoes that were taboo."

But after waiting nearly a month to receive these magnificent gems from England, i'm willing to throw caution to the wind and break with tradition. After all...

"Fashion magazines are jumping on this growing trend, calling people who 'dare' to wear white after Labor Day innovative, creative, and bold. Slowly but surely, white is beginning to break free from its box, and is becoming acceptable to wear whenever one pleases."

You're goddamn right i'll wear them whenever i please!

I'll even flaunt the fact that they came with white buckles, straps, mesh and gold trim.

So the next time i question whether or not i should pull on my fresh euro-trash kicks for a training ride, all i have to do is look at the little Italian flag on the heel and ask:

What would Dino Signori do?
