An Ode To Thee

Dear Wind,

Thank you so much for picking up in the hour preceding my commute home the other night.

It's been a while since we've truly had a chance to catch up, but it was wonderful reacquainting myself with your unmistakable personality.

I guess one could even say that in your absence i have missed your sweet caress. The way you blow fist sized particulate into my retinas; the loud air-raid howl that fills my ears with your presence; the constant anticipation of being blown sideways whilst riding with a full backpack; the luxurious skin exfoliation afforded by your gentle touch.

Yes, i guess it's safe to say that you make me feel special inside. After all, when else can i climb Verdugo Boulevard's benign 2% grade in my 39x27 - yet feel like i'm being spat out the back of the pro peloton ascending a French Col?

I hope we can do this again some time soon, for i know that spring brings your departure to colder, far-away climes. Until our next meeting, thoughts of you will fly through my head like dusty pollen swirling in your nighttime flurry.

with love,
Alex

39x27? We can't be friends anymore.

Hey listen here, Ohio - for those of us who ride OUTSIDE into 7000' MOUNTAINS for their winter base training, it's nice to spin a gear that wont crumble your patellas like the day-old scone wedged into your jersey pocket.

I have to agree with Alex on this one. While he may be confused about the 29" v. the full suspension rig, there are days I've been happy to have a 34x27, and have even wished for a lower ratio while on sustained 17 % climbs.

I'm gonna have to go with Boone and McKeen on this one... bring your road bike when you come Davis. We'll do some steep freakin' mountains.
